On June 29, 208, the GESI Secretariat participated in the 10th Croatian Cochrane Symposium: Building Capacity for Cochrane Systematic Review Production and Dissemination.
The GESI Secretariat held 2 presentations:
1) Self-evaluation of training capactiy: In this session, Dr. Lotfi explored described framework for capacity building in systematic reviews, and shared experiences in capacity building from the Clinical Research Institute at the American University of Beirut. Moreover, Dr. Lotfi discussed self-evaluation framework using the elements for capacity building in systematic reviews.
2) Building capacity for systematic review production: the experience of research centres in LMICs: In this session, Dr. Lotfi introduced the Global Evidence Synthesis Initiative (GESI) and the GESI Network, described the current GESI Network experience in evidence synthesis, and summarized the results of the needs assessment for capacity building in producing and using cross-disciplinary systematic reviews among the GESI Network.
Moreover, Dr. Tamara Lotfi conducted a workshop titled "Prioritization for Systematic Review topics in Health Systems using the SPARK tool". In this workshop, Dr. Lotfi introduced the principles of setting priorities for systematic review topics, specifically for health systems using the SPARK prioritization tool. The session began with a general introduction on health priority setting exercises, and then took the participants through the SPARK tool with hands-on exercises following that. The last 30 minutes of the session were allocated for participants' feedback on the tool, whether it adapted to their setting and whether they were willing to test the tool.
